Here are my notes for the Octopad setting for Joseph.
First I mapped out the extra sounds I thought useful for each song, from listening to the music. Since this is preparsed before rehearsal it is not likely that this will be the final set by any means.
Song | Sounds | MGS-64 Patch & Notes |
Prologue | Tinkly Bells | 113/16 - Rama Cymbal, on A, B & E (69, 71 & 76) |
Jacob & Sons | Conga's, Timp roll at end. |
Standard Drums, Lo & Hi Congas (), Timp on D (50) |
Joseph's Coat | Tamb on hi hat | (not using Octopad - I'll use a real one!) |
Joseph's Dreams | Tamb on hi hat, Timp roll at end. |
Timp on A (45) |
Poor Poor Joseph |
Cabasa, Guiro, Bells |
Standard Drums for Guiro and Cabassa (or use the real things!), Air Bells for bell sound. |
One More Angel In Heaven | Tamb on Hi Hat | (use real one!) |
Potiphar | Wood Block, Cow Bell |
Use real ones live |
Close Every Door | Timp | Timp on F, A & D (Tune played on bells, but I thought that best done by keyboards!) |
Go Go Joseph |
Ride, |
Timp on A (45), Some bells as well, but ran out of pads! |
Pharoah Story | Click, Syn Toms, Toms, Chiff, Bells, Tinkly Winkies, Timp |
|
Song Of The King | Straight Kit | |
Stone The Crows | Finger Click, |
Tamb on hi hat? |
Benjamin Calypso | Timbales, Electric Snare, Conga's Cabassa |
|
Any Dream Will Do | Rim Shots |
Having got the sounds sorted, I then arranged them into Octopad settings, bearing in mind I practise on them, so the Octopad was always going to need to have a set of standard sounds available, but also reducing the need for patch changes to a minimum. This resulted in the following practise sets...

These are the Midi Channel Assignments for the MGS-64 (Roland sound canvas), the MIDI channel allocations are really left overs from previous shows; there is no method in this madness:
